I lost the copy I had & wanted to have it framed. It's such a beautiful & uplifting poem and I can't seem to find it anywhere on the net. If anyone can help I would appreciate it so much, thanks!

I believe it started with these lines or something like it:

I cannot say, I will not say
That she (he) is dead... she is just away

Found a couple versions, hope either are what you're looking for.

He is Just Away
---James Whitcomb Riley--
I cannot say, I will not say
That he is dead. He is just away!
With a cheery smile
And a wave of the hand
He has wandered into an unknown land
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be,
Since he lingers there;
So think of him faring on, as dear
In the love of There as the love of Here
Think of him still
As the same, and say
He is not dead, he is just away.

[Other Version - Unknown]
I cannot say, I will not say,
That she is dead.
She is just away!
She went home, to heaven,
with a cheery smile,
And a wave of the hand,
She made her journey into the better land.
So let us think of her faring on, as dear,
in the love there as the love of hers here
She resteth now. No more her breast heaves,
With its weary breath;
Pain sits no longer on the brow,
where lies the calm of death.
Sunk to her rest like a tired mother,
She lies in slumber deep,
softly folded in the arms of Him,
who giveth His beloved sleep.

Thank you for having this lovely web site on the internet.
I was looking for a very special poem inside of a card that my family received when my father passed away many years ago when I was a child. I had seen the same poem one more time when another family member passed but lost track of the card with the poem.
This is a time for a loss of a friend that the poem came to mind and the rest is history as I found your web site with the whole poem. "She/He Is Just Away".
Thank you. I have now registered to read more poems which is a subject that has always been close to my heart since I was a youngster in school.
I tried my hand at writing poems but that did not work out, however, my love for poems is shown in my many books that I now have of various poets.
Regards, T.G.
